When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea – 16″x20″ House paint and collage on canvas.

The story here is that I’ve been obsessed with this crown image for awhile, and it’s appeared in several of my drawings and paintings. So I made a couple of them for realsies out of wood, nails, and gold paint. I wanted to test out making a photo print and decoupaging it over a painting. Since this was a test, I didn’t give the content too much thought. I did the bulk of the background with a beautiful dark green house paint that my friend Lynette had found for me (it looks black in this photo, but I assure you that it is actually a deep deep dark green). Since it had been her paint, I asked her what animal I should paint, and she replied “seagull.” That gets us to here. As I was looking at the finished piece and considering what to call it, I suddenly remembered the (in)famous quote from Eric Cantona, and there you have it. How could it be titled anything else?

You’ll probably see more projects appearing with the crown. I’m not sure what to do with the two I carved and made, but I do know I feel sorta compelled to make more. Does anyone need a wooden crown?
